HealthDay: Many Americans Don't Even Know They're Fat →
There is a valid reason that people don’t know the medical definition of the word obese. Just look at the photos that they use to illustrate the article, and every other article like it. The common perception of what an obese person looks like is actually much larger than the average medically obese person. And then there is the overweight vs normal thing, these aren’t really mutually exclusive categories are they?
Americans know they are fat, which is why other surveys show that much of the population is dissatisfied with their body and trying to lose weight. They just don’t like the clinical terms used to describe them.
I was really hoping this was an Onion story.
